Bride Squad Runaway by Caroline Grace Cassidy and Lisa C Carey

What do you need when your wedding isn’t the perfect day you planned, your perfect man isn’t all he’s cracked up to be? Your squad and a getaway, of course!!

The cover is eye catching and original, and the book claimed to be a funny and heartfelt story and it certainly lives up to that.

You can’t help but laugh along with Ava and her gang and their adventures and misadventures on their road trip! I wish I had such a fun and crazy group of friends to whisk me away and help me forget my troubles when times get tough!

The characters in the book are very raw and real. There were times when I wanted to shout at Ava for being so naive and unsure, and times when I wanted to give her a great big cwtch. And of course there was Simon, the ex fiance who I really disliked for obvious reasons!

This is a lighthearted and fun read about friendship and facing adversity with a smile! I really enjoyed this book.

Containment by Nick Thacker

Jake has uncovered a man-made, deadly and dangerous virus. Can he find a cure before it’s too late?

The cover of this book screams excitement and danger and in many ways if this is what you are expecting, you will not be left disappointed.

The story takes you on a journey of discovery as the fantastic duo of Jake and Eliza try to work out who has created this deadly virus and the motive behind it.

The chemistry and banter between the two main characters adds a lightness to the story which is needed in my opinion, as otherwise the story could feel very heavy. The pair make a great team from the very beginning and it’s clear they are sparking a good friendship if not something more…

My favourite aspect of the story was probably the clever plotting and the cliff hanger endings to chapters which ensured I kept reading late into the night!

Overall, a great read!

Autumn Skies Over Ruby Falls by Holly Martin

I absolutely adore Holly’s books so I was delighted when she agreed to let me be involved in her latest release’s blog tour!

Holly writes simple, beautiful romance fiction and it is like drinking sunshine from a cup. It definitely leaves you feel warm and fuzzy inside and this book is no different.

Set over the Halloween celebrations at Ruby Falls, Clover is reunited with her friend and would be lover, Angel. Clover has had a bad experience with men in the past. Can Angel break down her walls and help her learn to love and trust again?

This book did really give me all the feels. The settings and celebrations are so beautifully described it made me feel SO excited for the autumn ahead.

What I really love about Holly’s books is the depth she gives her characters, and the interactions between us. They could easily be your friends, your family, your neighbours as you get to know them so well through the course of the stories. The interactions are a lovely mix of wit, romance and soul searching sensitivity.

The ending was exactly what was needed to round off the book perfectly. As a reader I was left feeling satisfied but also that Angel had completely taken top spot as my fictional crush. ♥️

Another five star read from a queen of romance!

The Wife by Shalini Boland

The cover of this book introduces the main character perfectly – she is a suspicious & insecure wife.

Zoe’s wedding day wasn’t the perfect day she hoped for. She passed out and she struggles to remember what happened. When she discovers the truth, her life begins to unravel in front of her eyes. Can she save herself and her children before it’s too late?

This book is sophisticated yet simple, intricate yet easy to follow. I absolutely loved the two time frames and the way they were dealt with.

Boland builds perfectly believable yet evil or misled female characters, and writes in fabulous detail about the scenes she is trying to create. This made sure I was hooked from the start and I flew through this book as I had to know what happened!

The twists were crazy and so so clever. I really liked how at the beginning it seemed like a simple domestic story and she managed to make it so much darker without losing the realism of it!

A stunning five star read and Shalini Boland may be my new queen of psychological thrillers!

In The Dying Minutes by J A Baker

This is a well paced story with an intricate & original plot with some interesting twists and developments at the end.

I was really taken in by the character of Leah. Yes, she was mentally unstable, violent and selfish but she was so complex I was drawn in and had to know more about her.

I was shocked by the ending but felt it was pitched perfectly to fit in with the character of Leah as she had been revealed to us.

A read I would recommend to fans of slightly more intricate and three dimensional psychological fiction!

Splitting Heirs by Diane Michaels

⭐ R E V I E W ⭐

This is an original and well written novel, which I have really enjoyed.

The plot is original as it follows two life changing events in Lauren’s life and explores the impact of them on her mental and emotional wellbeing. The first is meeting (or re-meeting) Johnny, and the second is the death of her beloved but somewhat neglected great aunt Donna.

The two plot points are intertwined perfectly and serve the reader well as it helps us to really get to know Lauren and see her develop as a character. I could really identify with her as she grew through the book and ended up on a  completely different trajectory and life path than we first thought.

Though dealing with the somewhat serious issues of love & death, the tone and style of the writing is lighthearted and there are lots of funny moments in the book.

This has been an entertaining and thought provoking read as it’s left me feeling totally empathetic towards Lauren and wondering what I would do in her shoes.

Undoubtedly a five star read and a must buy for fans of fun, original romantic fiction!

Longhand by Andy Hamilton

This book is far more original and carefully crafted than I was expecting.

It tells the story of Malcolm and his love Bessie. Malcolm is actually a demi-God, Heracles, and the book describes the most defining, terrifying and heartbreaking moments of his long life. At first, I was really unsure if this book was for me. But it is so beautifully written, and the narrator is so naturally funny and self-deprecating, I was drawn in and I had to stick with it.

There are times when I laughed out loud, and I particularly enjoyed the humorous modern cultural references, and there were times where I was so touched I wanted to cry.

This book has totally shocked me as Andy Hamilton is one of the skilful and sophisticated writers I’ve read in a while.

Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall by Victoria Walters

I was drawn to this book by the gorgeous cover, which looks so beautiful and crisp. Also by the author’s name, as it is one that has been recommended to me time and again by fellow chick lit fans.

I have absolutely loved escaping to Glendale with Heather, Emily, Beth and the gang.

This is the third book in a series but was easy to read as a standalone book. The flashbacks and point of view really helped me to climb into Heather’s head as she questions whether the choices she has made are the right ones? This book explores how our life may end up on a different path to the one we envisaged, and shows how we can appreciate it anyway…

I could identify with Heather so much as my life too has gone on a completely different path than I thought it would around 5 years ago. I too, also suffer with anxiety and enjoyed seeing this rawness and realness in a character. This is a delightful romance read, but it is so much more than that!

I have loved and been inspired by reading about Heather fighting for her family, her dreams and her home. This book touches on other important topics such as conventions & traditions, anxiety & the role of women. There were some tense and dramatic moments too!

This will not be my last read by this wonderful author!

Love at the Little Wedding Shop By The Sea by Jane Linfoot

This was a lovely uplifting read. I haven’t dipped into this series since the first book, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I’m just not a “series” reader – I am notorious for buying lots of books in the series after reading the first & then it takes me ages to return to the rest!

Anyway, this is one series I’m glad I’ve returned to! Although a series, it works well as a standalone novel. This book focuses on Mila, and her repairing her life after she finds out her ex boyfriend and old friend are having a baby.

Mila decides to escape to Cornwall and throw herself into improving the wedding shop. But will Nic distract her from this focus?

I enjoyed this book and Mila is a believable, likeable character. There is a nice mix of emotional and funny moments in the book!

A perfect read and series for fans of cosy chick lit. I hope you enjoy!

Never Say No by Elizabeth Neep

I was first attracted to the book by the cover – it is bright and fun. I thought I may identify with the main character as I, too, have terrible FOMO, a lot!

Hailey is almost 30 and has a good job, a steady boyfriend and a loving best friend who feels more like a sister… So why is she feeling so dissatisfied and unfulfilled? And what can she do about it?

This book follows Hailey on her journey of revelation as she takes on a the challenges of a new career and the new influential social circle that arises from it, whilst trying to maintain a connection with her “old life”.

Hailey finds herself saying “yes” a lot, with her desire to please people, get ahead and prove that she has made the right life choices seeming like her main motivation. However, this often leaves her mentally and emotionally drained. Can she find the right balance between feeling fulfilled and pleasing others?

I really enjoyed reading Hailey’s story but found myself wanting to shout at her a lot. I wished and hoped that she would redeem herself at the end, which she does! I was left feeling satisfied with her journey and sympathising with the lessons she’s learned along the way.

Overall, this was a fun and uplifting read that is beautifully written and has believable and likeable characters! Except Vivian, of course. I thought she was vile…

A favourite quote is “I refuse to let the maybes of tomorrow steal the joys from my today.”
